Super Simple Slow Cooker Barbecue Pulled Pork Sandwiches

When I purchased my slow cooker a little over a month ago one of the first meals I thought to make was pulled pork. Pulled pork, in my opinion, is a staple slow cooker recipe and perfect for the slow cooking newbie (such as yours truly) with its minimal screw up factor.

I slightly adapted a recipe from The Busy Mom’s Slow Cooker Cookbook by Jyl Steinbeck. The results we an abundant amount of tangy pulled pork deliciousness. The meat was so moist and pulled apart perfectly.

The only question of concern with the original recipe is that it called for the meal to cook 7-9 hours on low and it was actually done for me at 6 hours. It could be because I have a new slow cooker and it is a larger 6 quart. Some of the slow cooker research states that meals will cook faster if it is half or less than half full. Not sure if this is entirely true but just something to keep in mind if you choose to whip up this recipe.

This recipe makes enough for about 3 -4 meals. I served the pork on sandwiches but this week I plan on using some of the leftovers for barbecue pork pizzas.



Super Simple Slow Cooker Barbecue Pulled Pork Sandwiches

Serving: Varies

Serving size: 3 ounces of cooked pulled pork with barbecue sauce on two slice of whole grain bread.

Calories: 288 * Carbs: 35 * Fat 6.5 * Protein: 24 * Fiber: 5


3lb pork tenderloin

1 ½ teaspoon garlic powder

1 16 ounce bottle of quality barbecue sauce

Bread for sandwiches


Step 1. Coat the inside of slow cooker with non stick cooking spray.

Step 2. Cut the pork tenderloin into large chunks, sprinkle with garlic powder, and pour in barbecue sauce. Mix lightly to coat.

Step 3. Cover and cook on low 6 – 9 hours depending on your slow cooker.

Step 4. Remove meat and shred using two forks. Shred to consistency your family likes. I left mine a little chunkier. Place back into slow cooker and mix thoroughly again with the sauce until well coated.

Step 5. Place onto bread and serve.

Freezing Instructions

Like I said this recipe makes a ton of pulled pork so most likely you will have extras. Good thing it freezes great. Place pork in freezer bags or containers, label, and place in freezer.

Reheating Instructions

Heat up in microwave or on stovetop.

    • Hey there! Sorry for the late response. I bought the Wegman’s gourmet brand. I tried to look for the one that had the least amount of ingredients. Hope this helps.

    I like to add a little liquid smoke to mine and find that out then requires much less sauce for a good flavor.

  7. This tasted great! My family loved it. However, with 3 boys…2 of them teenagers, I usually don’t have much left! I will have to start doubling these recipes if I want to have any left over for another night!!
