Hi, my name is Tammy.


In October 2010 my life changed – or at least it was about too. At that time, I weighed 177 pounds. This oyslanding3might not seem like a lot to some of you but at only 5ft 3in that was not a weight I felt comfortable at. Actually to be quite honest I was miserable and hated the way I looked physically and felt emotionally. I knew I could do better.

The picture to the right is me at 177 – 180 pounds. Please note this is pre pregnancy weight. I actually clocked in around 200 pounds each time I had a bun in the oven.

Like many people, I tried almost every diet on the market – each time ending in failed results. I remember at one point just giving up. On the outside I stopped trying but, on the inside, I thought about it every day. I remember many times going to bed at night thinking that tomorrow will be different. Only to wake up and do the same things I did the day before. I struggled with breaking bad habits and creating new ones. Looking back, it’s not that I didn’t want to lose weight; I just didn’t know how to do it correctly. I was trying to get different results while doing the same things every day. It was not working.

This picture above is of me and baby sister. Of course, here I am licking clean a plate of spaghetti. I had no control over my food at all! My food controlled me!


I think this picture saddens me the most. When I was heavier I would always hide behind my kids in pictures. I never felt confident to step in front of the camera by myself. That is not the way I wanted my girls to see me.

The good news is a few months after that picture was taken, a light bulb went off.

I was sick of being overweight, tired, and unhappy. Truly, I had enough and finally got serious about living a healthier lifestyle. I made a commitment to change. I realized that taking control of my bad habits and losing weight would make me a better wife, mother, and allow me to get the most out of everything life has to offer. I wanted this for my family. I did not like the person I had become and I knew this had to change. I was ready for a change.

What was different this time around?

In the past, I turned to fad diets. I didn’t know where to start and these diets offered me a false sense of structure and control. Basically, they told me what to do. While most of these diets provided some structure, they didn’t take into account my family’s needs, school schedules, food preferences, dietary restrictions, and other special circumstances unique to me. These diets did not fit my lifestyle.

Also, as you know, many of these diets focus on restricting or removing entire food groups. That is not realistic for me at all. Sure! Maybe I can give up pasta for, oh I don’t know, a week? But I know removing pasta from my life is not going to be sustainable in the long run. One “rule” I follow whenever I decide to make a lifestyle change is this: Whatever I do on the first day, I need to be able to do for the rest of my life.

With all this is mind, I realized that if I wanted to make real and sustainable changes, I needed more than a fad diet. I needed an organized plan that took into account my lifestyle and family. That’s when it hit me. I was the only one that would be able to customize a weight loss plan to fit my lifestyle. That is when I decided to Organize Myself Skinny!

I also started to get involved in 5Ks and other activities. Things I would have NEVER done before. I felt like a changed woman! I felt  like I had my life back!
