Today I want to introduce to my 3rd SMK Contributing Writer, Paula. I have known Paula for about 3 years now. We work together in my “real” job and I can honestly say she is my right hand woman. My confidant. My work wife. Very rarely do I make a decision (personal, professional, or anything else) without talking it completely through with Paula first. She has been my one woman focus group as I brainstormed ideas and built SMK from the ground up. Believe me Paula has saved me (and you) from some very bad decisions and continues to support and encourage me to keep moving forward – especially when I get tired. She is an amazing person and I know you will love her just as much as I do. I will let her explain what she will be writing about on SMK.
Hi, my name is Paula, and I am on my way to living a healthier lifestyle with the help of SMK’s tips & tricks.
I am a mother, to an adorable and highly active 5-year-old little boy.
I am a Wife of a Mexican-American field technician. Which means, his mommas cooking will always be superior to mine. And he travels 2-3 weeks a month with little to no notice.
I am a full-time employee, where I am fortunate to say I LOVE my job and colleagues.
I am a part time volunteer, with the National Association of Social Workers and other local organizations including the homeless.
and I am always busy!
Recently, I decided make myself a priority, meaning my health. My background is in social work, and naturally I want to do as much as I can for others. However, I realized, in order to be there for others, I needed to ensure that I am doing what is best for me first. I am always going to be a mother and busy, so I need to figure out a way to do it in the healthiest way possible. And what works for one person, might not work for another.
I have the great fortune to work with SMK herself. So I was able to see her success firsthand, in addition to the struggles along the way. In December I started to test out some of the SMK recipes, freezer cooking methods and other tips and tricks. I didn’t do anything with the goal to lose weight, rather, start to implement healthier habits and choices. The added bonus since implementing these better habits has been the 30lbs I have lost and maintained thus far. I am so excited (and nervous) to share my SMK journey with everyone.
In my bi-weekly posts you will find my honest opinions and experiences (the good, bad and other) while I test out different SMK methods, habits and advice in an effort to find effective and sustainable healthy habits for myself and my family. I look forward to this adventure and hope you do too!
